Moonlight Peak

Moonlight Peak

Wairarapa

Moonlight Peak is located in the Wairarapa - approximately 10 minutes from the township of Carterton and an hour and 30 minutes from Wellington city.

The cabin is set high on a hill - with a magnificent birds-eye view of the Wairarapa on one side of the hut - and the calming deep green peaks of the Tararua Ranges on the other. To the South - you'll glimpse the sparkling ocean of the Cook Strait.

Architecturally designed, Moonlight Peak oozes luxury. Beautiful fibres and linens adorn the bed, and the bathroom, kitchen and lounge offer lush comfort in up-to-the-minute style. A special feature is the double skylights in the bedroom - for ultimate stargazing.

A cedar hot tub, with arguably the best view in New Zealand, is positioned in a sheltered spot in front of the hut... Watch the early sunrise over the landscape and the hawks soar over the farmland below - as you soak away your cares in the steaming hot water.

Completely off-the-grid, with a state-of-the-art solar system, a stay at Moonlight Peak is an escape to glorious isolation and wilderness - while still enjoying all the comforts of modern life.

  • Eating and Drinking

Moonlight Peak is self-catering. Just bring your own food and cook your meals using the facilities provided in the cabin kitchen. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

The nearest supermarket is in Carterton, a 20-minute drive away. We recommend a detour to the award-winning Clareville Bakery (between Carterton and Masterton) for some delicious bakery treats on your way.

Make sure you bring absolutely everything you need with you! Once you've been dropped at the cabin you'll be there until your hosts collect you on the day of departure.

  • Things to do

Moonlight Peak is all about rest and relaxation.

Spend your time reconnecting with each other and marvelling at the incredible views stretched out before you. Stargaze through the skylights over the bed, catch up on sleep or binge-watch that Netflix series you've been looking forward to (WIFI available at the cabin).

With board games and a luxurious hot tub provided - you'll find there is plenty to keep you entertained. And if you're keen for some exercise - walk the track to the cabin down and back up again to really get the heart racing!

Tie in a visit to one of the many local cafes or vineyards on your way to or from Moonlight Peak to experience the region's fabulous food and wine.

  • Your hosts

Summer, Tim, Ivy and Billy are your hosts at Moonlight Peak.

Summer and Tim have owned the property near Carterton since February 2016. Tim is an Agri-Banker for Rabobank and a farmer. Summer manages Moonlight Peak accommodation, while also being a stay-at-home mum and a farmer.

For them, they love that the property is nestled just on the edge of the Tararua Ranges and overlooks the beautiful Wairarapa - from Mount Bruce all the way to the Cook Strait. It's the type of place where you feel like you're on top of the world, described as "somewhere between heaven and earth"!

The idea to set up glamping on their property came about when they came across Canopy Camping Escapes - and were inspired to set up their own retreat. Watching the moon and sunrise from the east above the Wairarapa is magical...and it's a delight for Summer and Tim to share it with their guests.

Summer has created an amazing escape from the chaos of modern life without sacrificing modern amenities (and adding a few extras as well). With the almost surreal backdrop of the Wairarapa valley dropping away beneath your feet, this destination is much more an experience than accommodation.

Everything about Moonlight Peak is incredible. Truly can’t fault it in any way that can be helped. Only thing to be aware of is that the location is open to all the elements, and you could experience all four seasons in a day.

What to say about Moonlight Peak...I cannot recommend it highly enough. You could pay thousands a night anywhere in the world to stay in such an incredible location. We absolutely loved our time there and did not want to leave. The house itself is beautifully designed and furnished. The view is incredible both during the day and at night, and the spa on the deck to relax in is just the cherry on top. Please treat yourself to a weekend here; trust me, you will feel your soul revived and thank yourself for it later.
