Queenies Crib

Queenies Crib

Marlborough Sounds

Queenies Crib is based in Anakiwa in the Marlborough Sounds, 30 minutes from Picton, 20 minutes from Havelock and 50 minutes from Blenheim.

The crib is surrounded by farmland on a peaceful bay within a quiet Marlborough Sounds community. There are a few other cribs and bachs dotted around.

The little timber-lined crib is warm and welcoming. Small but perfectly formed, it contains a dining and lounge area, an indoor kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and flushing toilet, and a mezzanine sleeping loft with ladder access. Double outdoor baths provide the perfect star-gazing soak at night.

Quiet and peaceful, the views from the crib are lovely. Boats bob on their moorings on the bay. Gannets dive - and seals are frequent visitors to the bay. Native birds like native falcon, tui, bellbirds, pukeko and fantails abound.

The nearby beach is a 3-minute walk away, with the Queen Charlotte walking and cycling track just a 5-minute walk away.

  • Eating and Drinking

Queenies Crib is self-catering. Just bring your own food, and cook meals using the BBQ and facilities provided in the kitchen. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need.

If you want a break from cooking at any stage, Havelock is a 20-minutes drive away and has The Captain's Daughter, Mills Bay Mussels, Slip Inn, and several other cafes to choose from. The retro caravan called the Taco Shack does lunch in summer and comes highly recommended by your hosts!

A little closer is the Queen Charlotte Tavern which is a 10-minute drive away and does well-priced meals and good fish and chips. Anakiwa has a coffee caravan over summer which does ice cream too (a 5-minute walk away).

  • Things to do

Relax in the crib - read, soak in the outdoor baths or just watch the boats on the bay or the changing light on the water. Enjoy playing records on the record player provided - or battle it out over a board game.

If you're keen to get active, take out the kayaks for a paddle and explore the bay. Access to the Queen Charlotte track is just minutes away - a brisk walk or run in the morning followed by a jump off the wharf is a great way to start the day!

Anakiwa also has kayaks or bikes for hire.

  • Your Hosts

Your hosts at Queenies Crib are Christina, Gary, Jacqui, Stephanie, and two cats Willow and Storm (the Lokums).

Gary used to work at the Outward Bound School and is now a Ranger at Zealandia. While Chris is a Human Resources Executive. Both Gary and Chris love escaping to Anakiwa. With good friends living nearby, and a share in a yacht on the bay - it's their ultimate place for rest and relaxation.

The Lokums treasure the crib for its privacy and peacefulness, with easy access to the beach. It’s surrounded by native plants and birdlife with a great outdoor bath to relax in at night under the stars.

Queenies is a play on the Queen Charlotte Sounds, while ‘crib’ is a Southerner name for 'bach'.

We had a lovely time at Queenies Crib. The crib itself is gorgeous and very comfortable with thoughtful touches, and there is so much to do and see in the local area. The birdlife on the section is amazing. Hope to come back again for some more resting and adventuring!

Queenie's Crib was an absolute joy, and we both left feeling super refreshed and relaxed. The setting in Anakiwa was so lovely, we enjoyed exploring the end of the QCT and jumping into the water off the wharf after a morning run. It was the perfect time of year, still waking up into the summer season, so peaceful and so beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the chairs looking out at all the birds, oddly addictive!

Amazing location with great communication with the hosts. It's cosy and clean, such a gorgeous piece of paradise. We loved our stay in the crib, listening to music, and the birds and the outside bath just topped it off. We will definitely recommend to others and stay again.
