Cliffside Totara Tree Tent

Cliffside Totara Tree Tent

Cliffside Glam Camping, Karioitahi Beach

The Cliffside Totara Tree tent is set amongst beautiful native bush in Waiuku, next to Castaways Resort, just 50 minutes drive from the CBD and 15 minutes inland from Kariotahi Beach. It's run by the same family that owns the Cliffsite Coastal Tents and and a unique group glamping village further along the beachfront clifftops.

The Tree Tent is suspended between two mighty totara trees. It's surrounded by pristine, mature bush, and offers a completely different experience to the three Cliffside Coastal Tents, located on the cliffs above Karioitahi Beach.

Central heating makes this the perfect city escape year-round. A gourmet self-cook dinner and breakfast can be added to the package, so if you choose this option all you need to think about is getting yourself there - the rest is taken care of.

Although completely off-grid, the tree tent has all the comforts and extras you'd expect from glamping. Solar power produces electricity for lighting, a stereo, even an espresso machine and refrigerator.

Castaways is about a 50 minute drive from the centre of Auckland. Google Maps gives accurate directions to get to there.

Once you arrive at Castaways, you'll need to check in to reception. Once checked in, the team will give you instructions on how to get to the Totara Tree Tent, which is a short drive inland from the resort. Make sure you arrive before dark so you can see clearly to walk the short distance through the bush to the tent.

  • Your Hosts

Cliffside Glam Camping is set on the stunning cliff tops above Karioitahi Beach, overlooking the Tasman Sea just 50mins from Auckland airport.

In 2002 Gavin & Raewyn Shine purchased the property and existing business (KP's) and after extensive renovations to the restaurant, reopened as Castaways, a Wedding, Conference, and Dining destination. Over the years Castaways was developed by Gavin and Raewyn Shine and expanded
to include 25 chalets and studio units, a day spa, a beautiful restaurant, and loads of adventure activities. KP's now one of the most popular wedding, conference, and glamping destinations in the Greater Auckland region.

In 2017 Castaways was sold to Marsden Group by which it is run and owned. However, Glam Camping At Castaways remains a small family-owned business, which is run and owned by sisters Serena and Jasmine Shine. Serena and Jasmine are enthusiastic glam campers and inspire to create unique glamping experiences for guests to truly relax and unwind. Serena and Jasmine have extended the couple’s experiences to a Glam Camping Village where they host exclusive events.

A great location to chill with every imaginable convenience, first-class provisions, a great outdoor bath, and a great soundtrack to boot. It deserves all the accolades it attracts. Our tip: Have lunch at The Castaways and spend a few hours driving the back road through to Pollock and on to Orua Bay before returning to Totara Park.
