River Oaks - Moroccan Tent

River Oaks - Moroccan Tent

Tauranga, Bay of Plenty

The Moroccan Tent at River Oaks Retreat is a 30-minute drive from Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty and a 2 hour and 20 minutes drive from Auckland.

Nestled amongst the native bush and beautiful farmland, this luxurious tent has everything you need to relax and unwind. The artistically designed Moroccan-themed interior adds a bit of magic and atmosphere to your stay.

Sleeping up to five, the tent is ideal for either a family or two couples. It has two cosy queen-sized beds, one with a single top bunk.

There is a small kitchen area within the tent. For the cooler evenings, flick on the heating, pick and choose from the variety of board games and relax. Soaking in the outdoor hot tub and watching the sun fade into the night sky is the perfect way to finish the day or warm up on those colder evening by the outdoor fire.

Reconnect with mother nature and nearby wildlife. Hear the moreporks calling at night, and the rush of the river in the background. Listen to the chirping birdsong and switch off from the world. You really can’t get more peaceful than this.

  • Eating and Drinking

The Moroccan Tent is self-catering. Just bring your own food, and cook meals using the facilities provided in your camp kitchen and enjoy on the patio by the outdoor fire. All the utensils you'll need for cooking and eating are provided.

If you want a break from cooking at any stage, Clarence Bistro is a top-rated restaurant just 25-minutes away. White House Te Puna is a cosy and relaxed restaurant that caters to all ages (18-minutes drive away).

  • Things to do

The Moroccan Tent at River Oaks is perfect for families, two couples or a group of friends wanting to reconnect and relax together. Enjoy board games inside the cosy tent or a variety of lawn games outside (badminton, hoops and cricket).

If it is a warmer day, cool off with a refreshing swim in the river. Take refreshments and chill in the 'Zen Den' - a purpose-built relaxation haven for guests staying on the property (note that this is shared with the guests staying in the River Oaks Cabin, the other accommodation on the property).

On a winter's evening, soak away your troubles in the hot tub. A UE boom is provided so you can enjoy your own music.

The outdoor fire provides warmth and comfort on those colder nights, bring your own marshmallows to toast or to make smores.

If you’re keen to explore the local region, there are plenty of places to go. You can visit the nearby beach and hikes or walk through the beautiful The Redwoods Wharekawa Forest (a 1.5-hour drive away).

The nearest town is Katikati, only 15 minutes drive away. Tauranga town is a 30-minute drive away.

  • Your hosts

Your hosts at River Oaks are Melissa and Richard, with a bit of help from their two dogs Badger and Siena.

After living in the city for many years the couple decided to get back in touch with mother nature - and settle down in the country. They've lived on the farm for four years now and haven't looked back. They love the river, the peaceful setting - and the accessibility to nearby towns.

Having been glamping at different places all over the world, Melissa became inspired to set up her own. The River Oaks Cabin and River Oaks Moroccan Tent are the results of that inspiration!

River Oaks is named for the river which runs through the property and the 150 oak trees Richard has planted along the driveway - a nod to the UK, where Melissa is originally from.

River Oaks Moroccan Tent was an amazing spot to get off grid and unwind for a few days. Even the weather couldn’t put a dampen on our stay. The covered outdoor area was perfect for dinner outdoors in the rain and the hot tub was fantastic rain, hail or shine.

This was my first 'glamping' holiday, as normally I would travel overseas and stay at a nice hotel. So I didn't know what to expect, but this exceeded my expectations. I have never felt so relaxed and it was exactly what I needed. Melissa, the host, was super friendly and put a lot of thought and care into the property, I was blown away at the detail and little extras. I loved it so much that as soon as I left I booked my next visit - but this time I'm staying for three nights!

We loved our getaway at the Moroccan Safari Tent! Melissa is a lovely host and made us feel very welcome. The inside of the tent has such a neat setup. The hot tub is just outside and perfectly positioned under the stars. Or you could take a cold plunge at the river. What more could you want to relax? Highly recommend!
